Essay Prompt
Please write your original essay in response to the following question:
“How can we reimagine policing in the United States to strengthen accountability, build community trust, and support the wellbeing of those who serve and protect?”
Your essay should:
- Reference at least two specific insights, stories, or examples from On Thin Ice that illustrate your perspective.
- Reflect an understanding of both community and law enforcement viewpoints.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and originality about the challenges facing policing today.
- Present at least three actionable recommendations for how policing can evolve to better serve both officers and the public.

- Length: 1,000–1,500 words
- Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt
- Spacing: Double-spaced
- File Type: PDF, Word or Google document; Must supply a public link
- File Naming Structure: LastName_FirstName_ReimaginingPolicing.pdf

Submission Requirements
Your submission starts with filling out the form linked below. Please prepare the following:
- Essay document: Please provide a PUBLIC LINK to your document meeting all guidelines above (no file uploads are accepted)
- Proof of enrollment (current high school senior or college student): This can include a current class schedule, transcript, letter from the registrar, tuition bill or recent report card. Your name and school must be on this documentation. This documentation must be provided as a public link.
- Contact information including:
- Full name
- School name and expected graduation year
- Email address and phone number
- Complete mailing address
- Your personal statement (max 150 words) introducing yourself and explaining why the topic of reimagining policing matters to you.
